About

Mike Davis

Since 2019, I have worked with mission-driven organizations on a broad range of data projects, from custom dashboards and enterprise data warehouses to predictive modeling and analytics strategy consulting. Before starting Intentional Data Services, I worked at an analytics platform and professional services firm as a data scientist in D.C., Maryland, and North Carolina, where I currently reside.

As a professional data scientist, I worked exclusively with nonprofits, advocacy organizations, cultural institutions, and foundations, which gave me deep familiarity with the specific challenges the social sector faces. More recently, I've been working at the intersection of nonprofit data and AI, understanding where it adds real value and, most importantly, where it must be used intentionally and designed correctly.

I hold a Master of Science in Information Systems, a Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics, and a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies with a minor in Business, all from the University of Utah. That mix of technical systems, business analytics, and communication training positioned me to both build and advise, which is a large part of why starting an independent practice felt like the right move.

Before working exclusively on nonprofit data, I spent seven years in retail operations and served as a graduate student instructor at the University of Utah, teaching Information Systems to undergraduates.

If I'm not working on an analytic project, you can find me working on my golf game, cheering on my favorite teams (and analyzing their stats of course), traveling to various historical sites and museums, or playing with my two high-energy dogs Theo and Harley.
